You will need a motherboard in approximately 14 months; that's how long they last on the average.... Sure it will run great now but make sure that you get extended warranty coverage (upwards of a year). Your TX 1000z dissipates heat in a very poor manner: symptomatic of CPUs that have been overclocked; but the real defect lies in the motherboard. Read the reviews on cnet.com and pay special attention to those that own the laptop above a year; believe me, you won't think that this is the greatest thing since slice bread a year from now.

So far so good!!!

This is the first HP that I have purchased, and I'm impressed.

With a flawless touchscreen, intellegently placed Altec Lansing speakers, well-positioned fingerprint reader, efficient webcam and competent keyboard, this laptop has far exceeded my expectations from HP.

The key reason behind this is that all my friends who own an HP have reported some problem or the other with their machine. I'm lucky I guess.

The operating system is really fast, thanks to Microsoft. The 4 gigabyte RAM helps a lot too. Not to mention the state of the art AMD processor.

And about the touchscreen, it's so cool that I can rest my hand on the screen while I take notes. The double receptive functionality (finger + stylus) is great too.

All in all, a masterpiece.

"It is not a REAL tablet. Period." 2008-03-28

I bought it directly from HP and received 30% discount to find out a week later that HP stopped producing tx1000 (hence the large discount). What they do not tell you is that this model does not have Wacom digitizer and active display. This model has a passive display,and what that means is that you would be able to write on the screen as successfully as you try to write something in you Blackberry.

When you try to write on the screen you have to apply so much pressure and the hand has to be at a certain angle. Even that did not always help me as a result I got a bunch of dots or some weird looking lines that did not resemble any letters. The pen primarily serves a function of the mouse. And also forget about trying to draw anything, it will not work the same as the writing.

The computer is loaded with HPs bloatware (as usual) and Vista is slower than XP. The comp is unable to play any games (tried Command and Conquer) due to its weak videocard. In addition the screen is very grainy though it was expected.

If you you are looking for a real tablet get yourself their new tx2000 which has Wacon Penable digitizer and an active display. That baby will allow you to write on it like on the real paper with no problems at all.

I received this computer three days ago. Although I will admit to being smitten with the novelty of simply having a laptop, this is amazing. The tablet feature alone blew me away. This notebook is able to convert into a "slate" and a touch-screen with an attachment allow you to write in any box (even on the internet) where input is needed.

It even recognizes cursive handwriting! I just wrote this in MY OWN WRITING!!!

Naysayers be damned, I give Windows Vista my full confidence. Period.

(I'm still using the pen to write.) Vista's usability & user-friendliness is simply astounding! This is the first computer I have ever owned that allowed me to be online within 10 minutes of startup. A gem, through & through!!

I purchased this item on 25 February 2010. I went to move my laptop from my upstairs bedroom on 17 March to my dining room to finish up some schoolwork and when I unplugged the charger from the wall, I heard some particles floating around. When I got downstairs to plug it in, the charger no longer works. So yet again I have to buy another charger for my laptop. What a hassle. This product was very cheap, but the quality is as well.

My bunny rabbit chewed through my old AC adapter power supply charger, so it was great that I could come onto Amazon.com and find exactly what I needed for an amazing price! I called Best Buy first, and I was on hold for a very long time. The guy kept asking me for my warranty information. I told him I didn't have it on hand and that I just needed a new charger for my specific computer. He insisted upon asking me about my warranty information again. I finally hung up on him after a 20 minute ordeal. I came onto Amazon.com, and within 3 minutes my order was placed. This is an inexpensiev, working product for my needs.

The Charger worked for an entire day and then died. It took them a week to reply about returning it. Took them 3 weeks to attempt to replace it, which never happened because by that time I filed a claim and received my money back. I wasted 7 dollars in shipping it back and now have no charger.

When I purchased my tx2000z I did it for the wacom penabled feature and if you'd asked me what I thought of it up until 16 months after I bought it, I would've said: Powerful little tablet pc, does what I want it to do!

Sadly .. it's not portable. You MUST use a lapboard and a cooling fan under it at all times.

And that.. was until I hit month 16 when the wifi died.. followed by the whole unit dying. Why? Oh, it gets so hot it MELTS THE SOLDERING ON THE MOTHERBOARD. Luckily, I had a two year plan and sent it in the be fixed. While it was being fixed I discovered hundreds of people online whose machines ALSO died just after their warranties ended. They had the standard one year warranty.. I lucked out.

Oh.. and five months later ... my wifi has begun going out again. I can't recommend this laptop to anyone.

My hp tx1xxx now has close to four hours of battery life primarily with sql and visual studio development functions. (Typically the old battery gave me less than two hours of life.) The battery raises the rear of the laptop about a half inch or less -- good for air flow, but might take some getting used to.

I take my laptop literally everywhere I can. I like to have an additional battery that will last a while. The laptop is already hefty so this battery didn't add too much more weight. It boosted the rear upward so it helps with viewing the screen when I'm in laptop mode. It helps me to get a better grip on the body when in tablet mode, although I would not try to carry the laptop by the battery as one person said he tried to do. All in all, I'm glad I made this purchase.

This doesn't fit the 2133 netbook at all, it is too big and I could tell just by looking at it when I opened the package. On top of that this thing is so light, not that that's bad, but I can tell that there is NO WAY that this is worth $30, no way, this is like a 10 cent item. What a massive overcharge and what a stupid seller to make such a stupid oversight. Now I know to ask the seller to make sure the item actually fits before selling it to me, ugh.
